Title: 68 z/28 wheel - spare (never out of trunk)
Post by: black69 on March 09, 2022, 01:35:57 AM
I planned to post a picture here but the image I took is too large. Thought it would be nice to post from a low mileage car, for reference.  The wheel is super pretty as is the tire.
Any hosting sites suggested? Been out of the car picture posting thing since the days of photobucket taking all my pictures for ransom.
Or I could text to someone until I figure out a good picture site.

I now see an earlier thread on using the 'paint' app to resize pictures.

If you continue to have an issue you can email me the photos and I’ll post them for you.  I’d also be interested in spare tire J bolt and wing nut if you have photos of those as well.

Have you ever tried Light Image Resizer ? i used the free trial download for years, and finally bought the latest license to use permanently. It's effortless to send the pics from my iPhone (which usually formats the pic too large for CRG rules) to my laptop, resize the pics, and pop them online after saving to my Pictures file for future use. You can use the LIR to save the pic in any format and upsize/downsize you need, easy even for an old geezer like myself. I never trusted Photobucket, for the aforementioned reasons. Glad I didn't -

Steve

I have an android phone and now using the "lit photo" app. Simple to use. Save pictures to a file in your pictures and load them right to here

Thanks for posting for me Darrell.  I did try to resize pictures on my iphone from settings, and it will only let me take the huge size.  I will check out these other recommendations and load those on my phone.

I may be slow most of the time, but I am not seeing any weights on my wheel?????  They shipped unbalanced? I also wonder what the blue chalk line is on the tire down the middle, checking for roundness?

thanks!

Bob, any chance you can post, or send to Darrell, a close up shot of the tire manufacturer's data stamp?  From your pictures, I believe it's on the back side of the tire, below the "Speed" of "Speedway"  Probably a string of numbers and letters in that narrow, oblong, raised area.  Thanks

Yep, it's been violated :)  Moved to never been mounted status.  Probably was that to begin with. Still confused why not balanced, just because its a spare it does not need weights?

Maybe it didn't need balanced. Did it ever vibrate in the trunk?

Interesting red mark on tire not lined up with a spot weld on DF rim. Great example for sure.

for what its worth I spoke to the original owner of my car tonight (mainly about other stuff on the car) and he too was baffled on why no weights on the wheel when he had the car. He did have it put on a machine and it turned out to be fine which surprised him too.
So it was out of the car all along, and likely that orange stuff could have been from the balance check, not sure. So there ya have it.  Not all wheels need weights.

cook-dw,

Cool pics of the spare tire!

The "82" mark on the inside surface of the rim appears to be a sequence number applied during the assembly build process of the car. I am investigating sequence number markings and have asked about this practice at the Norwood plant in a separate discussing thread on CRG (Norwood only because that is where my '69 Camaro was built.  Several folks have found seen sequence numbers marked on fuel tanks, heater boxes, and on firewalls.   My '69 Z28 has "63" marked on the fuel tank and heater box.

Is there any evidence of an "82" marking anywhere on your firewall?

Going on the assumption this car is an unrestored survivor, if you have removed your fuel tank was there a number marked on it?

If you remove the glove box liner, can you see a number on the top surface of the heater box?

Thanks,
Dave

Hi, I will check for those locations when I can, likely not the glovebox, Interior is like brandnew (24K miles), not going to mess with it. Great there was value to posting the pics.
