Title: Caveat emptor - ebay 69
Post by: KurtS on February 27, 2022, 06:31:39 AM
124379N585888 - 20+ years ago was for sale with the original drivetrain, but no trim tag and no POP.
Now it has both....

What I find interesting is the Cowl tag states 712 but it looks like a 711 interior?

That trim tag looks a little suspicious to me.

$49K and climbing - I can't imagine throwing that kind of money around without close inspection....

It’s a fake tag as Kurt mentioned in a round about way.

The seller is clueless about bodywork. A PDR tech is not going to fix that dent. Judging by what people with zero knowledge are paying for cars, I just raised the selling price of my running driving 71 429 4speed Cobra Jet Torino with original drivetrain. Its an unrestored driver.

50k for a questionable project is about as strong as it gets.

Block stamp???  I don't recall ever seeing '2' characters like that - ever - nor poor alignment of characters as shown or such a lack of broach marks, but I'm no expert and fully admit it!

Axle is good. Tag might be from a slightly later car.

No doubt it’s a Z, but not worth $50k imho.

Tag looks legit to me and fits right in with the VIN.

There used to be a blank spot on that firewall.
From an email 23 years ago:
> The trim tag is missing.  Owner said tag was lost when car was painted black from its original color of Fathom Green. He said it originally had a vinyl top.
> The car has .... black standard interior, ....
> The engine assembly was all there but apart.  The block had a sleeve.

Picture of trim tag in question in case it gets lost forever.

Kurt

I think I am confusing this with another Z that was built 04L. This tag is 01D and has the characteristics of a repop tag.
