Title: Decals for 1969 Camaro 327
Post by: KevinW on January 10, 2022, 12:17:04 PM
I have an early Oct 68 build Camaro with a 327 2bbl.  I need to get some decals for the original engine I am getting restored.  Looks like I need the pn# 6424492 (A169CW) black Service decal.

I see a lot of repro ones avail.  Are they close to original?

I looked at Don Lightfoot's site and did not see that one, but I plan to get some cowl induction decals for my other Camaro.

Thx

The part numbers on air cleaner stickers were for the full air cleaner assemblies (base, lid/silencer, lid/silencer seal, breather element, breather element clip, vacuum hose between cleaner base and ThermAC, vacuum hose between ThermAC and carburetor, and air filter, as applicable) and not just the air cleaner base.  The assembly did not include the wing nut, engine cubic inch/horsepower sticker(s), cleaner base modifications for heavy duty closed positive crankcase ventilation (RPO KD5), or arrestors for open ventilation cleaners.

Part number 6424492 is for a 1967 327/210 HP V8 engine with 2 barrel carburetor, A.I.R., and 1st design with two tubes.  For 1968, the following air cleaner assemblies were for 327 engines:

LF7 Engines:
- 327/210 HP V8 auto with 2BC: CH 6424425, A169CW filter.
- 327/210 HP V8 manual with 2BC: broadcast code unknown, 6483655, A329C filter (per 68 AIM UPC 6/C7).
- 327/210 HP V8 manual with 2BC: broadcast code unknown, 6483653, A329C filter (superseded 6483655 per Parts Catalogue No. 681A (Nov 67), Group 3.402).  Assembly line superseded date unknown.
- 327/210 HP V8 manual with 2BC: CJ 6484218, A329C filter (superseded 6483653 per Parts Catalogue No. 681A (Nov 67), Group 3.402).  Assembly line superseded date unknown.

L30 Engines:
- 327/275 HP V8 auto with 4BC (Turbo-Fire): broadcast unconfirmed as CL, 6484220, A348C filter.
- 327/275 HP V8 manual with 4BC (Turbo-Fire): broadcast code unknown, 6484221, A348C filter.

Hope that helps!
Bernie

Those are 68 #'s and Kevin has a 69.

While not definitive and I haven't dug through the AIM for numbers, but I've only seen the following air cleaners on 68 cars:
LF7 auto: CH
LF7 manual: CG
L30 & L48 auto: DH
L30 & L48 manual: DY
L35 auto: EH
L35 manual: EG
Z28: DZ

69:
327 & 307 auto: CI
327 & 307 manual: CH

I saw “early … 68 build” and was thinking 68 model year.  I guess I should have looked at the subject line.

Here’s what I have for 1969 327 engines:

LF7:
- 327/210 HP V8 auto w/2BC: broadcast unconfirmed as CI*, 6484578.
- 327/210 HP V8 manual w/2BC: broadcast unconfirmed as CH*, 6484597.

*By the term “broadcast unconfirmed as ##,” I mean that I do not have photos of original stickers, or data from broadcast sheets (i.e., Block #65 on a Body Broadcast Copy, or Block #180 on a Chassis Broadcast Copy), only data from reproduction stickers.

Kurt, I have a photo of an original 1968 L48 350-295 HP V8 manual w/4BC (Turbo-Fire) air cleaner and it has a broadcast code of “CO“ (part number 6484223), not “DY.”  If you have any photos of original air cleaner stickers for 67, 68, and 69 for any engines, can you add them to this post or PM me?  I am putting together a table with all of the air cleaner stickers for 67-69 that I eventually want to give to CRG as a report.  Thanks!

Wow, I forgot I posted this, thanks for replying :)  Yes, I have a 69 LF7 327, so I would need a CI 6484578 decal?

But white or black?

There a white CI listed on Eklers, but out of stock :( Its for a 69 Nova 307

Unfortunately, some of the 1969 stickers were black and some were white.  In 1969, they transitioned over to the white, multicolor stickers and dropped the service instructions and filter type.  Until I see photos of originals, I could not with certainty say which color sticker is correct.  If you're not building a concours car, then go with the reproduction CI 6484578 sticker.

Early 69's were black. Original data is spotty so real hard to pin down a changeover date.

69:
LM1 & L48 auto: CO & DF
LM1 & L48 man: CN & DE
L65 auto: DD
L65 man: DC

Kurt,

Can you define early?  Pre-Jan ‘69?

Thanks,

Richard

Thanks!  I have been in contact with Don and he is making a custom black/gold CI decal for me.  I will post when completed.
