Title: Firewall insulation

Has anyone purchased a molded firewall pad lately ?Who is selling the best one ?Lots of different companies making them .Want the best one . Thanks

I think I got it thru SS396 vendor for about 169.00

I have yet to install, but it looks way better than the 30 dollar flat folded up import version.

If you want to make it look more like an original give it a coat of rattlecan bedliner or rubberized undercoating.

Oh that is right I think I saw a thread on that, Remind me of a prospective product and method?

3M # Mfr No. 03584)  or Plasti-Dip (Model #11203-6), or Flex seal (Mfr Part Number 254546)

The "best" available firewall pad is marginal in my opinion. The rubber membrane material used on the originals was soft, pliable and the insulation / padding was a beige-brown. Current firewall pads use a heavy, stiff plastic membrane that can be made to look similar to the original by applying undercoating however the exposed edges of the insulation material is silver-blue with some bright material added in. The hole piecing alignment on the repros is close but no cigar and I've found the gas pedal requires more effort because the linkage is unable to easily compress the membrane. Although I did use an aftermarket pad for my current project, in future I would make my own. Use the original pad to plot and stencil the piercings you require for your application and add correctly colored / thickness insulation readily available on-line. I might start with thin, black pond liner material followed by an application of undercoating to duplicate the original texture. It might even be possible to build undercoating material directly on the insulation layer to create a membrane. Needless to say the aftermarket doesn't currently do a good job on firewall pads.

I am currently looking for the best quality firewall pad and when I looked at what HBC has to offer, they show one priced at $54.00 and the other priced at $289.00 with the same product description, my question is, has anyone compared these two products? and by the way they are both described with incorrect fasteners, if anyone has ordered either one your feedback would be appreciated.

I can't recall where I got my pad.  Possibly it was HBC, and seem to remember I had to order the rubber plugs separately to replace the cheap plastic ones that came with the pad.

Lloyds assessment is spot on... You can buy the CORRECT JUTE material which looks just like the original and as Lloyd stated build undercoating on top in order to create the correct appearing pad (in all aspects).
