Title: DZ block value - 19L526842

What is the rough value of one of these blocks? This seems a bit much ($10K) for what you get.

Obviously if you need it then it is whatever you are willing to pay……..just curious if anyone knows what price they actually change hands at?

Standard bore

To learn this, the heads had to be off. Where are those pics?

Complete intake to pan

Aftermarket intake and rocker covers. Those are not '69 heads.

The rattle-can paint and goobered up TC cover are red flags. Could easily be a worn-out mess internally. Should be priced as the used short block it actually is.

Prices are all over the place for the high performance engines for Camaros or anything else. Go to eBay, auto parts, type in 3956618 in the search block and you'll get a chance to buy anything from genuine (?) DZ's to 350/255 HP blocks to clones. At anywhere from a 70% price reduction from this ad, or 90% for a bare 6618 block. To the owner of the car that this (hopefully) original DZ block came out of, it would have an appropriate value, probably still not this much. Shameless speculation is you want my opinion -

Steve

Let's move this to the Orphans section and for future searches, let's add the VIN:

+2 on that one. Prices are all over the map. Here is another example of a similar situation over at the Boss 302 site:

When did Van Nuys move the partial VIN to the rough casting above the oil filter?

From the DRIVE TRAIN DECODING (http://www.camaros.org/drivetrain.shtml#PartialVINs) page:

Generally, the Norwood plant stamped the VIN on the engine pad on early cars and moved the stamp by the oil filter in the December 68 timeframe (there are a few known exceptions). Los Angeles was not as consistent and the VIN stamp location varied during the year.

The engine block may be the only correct piece here.  The balancer is degreed all the way around, oil pan is a $30.00 aftermarket, heads are much older, wrong intake and valve covers.  I have sold complete rebuilt, all correct and numbers matching DZ 302's for less than that.

Ok then.

I know everything is getting more expensive all the time…but I thought this was a bit much. Sounds like you guys are on the same page.

…..& that’s before we start looking at the validity of the sellers claims. Thanks Jaybee….hopefully the price alone scares everyone away and no one gets taken.
