Title: More fun!
Post by: crossboss on March 30, 2021, 06:06:21 PM
Ok, boys more fun. This is going to be a real competitive (and tough choice) on these two iconic sports cars. Remember, choose only one.
1963 'Split Window' Corvette, OR a 289 Cobra (street car). GO!!!

The '63 split window Corvette.  I've just never been a big Ford, Cobra, or GT40 fan.

Split Window Vette, C2 Corvettes are one of the most beautiful cars ever built.

I guess Im going against the grain on this one. Both cars are exceptional, no question. That said, my vote is 289 Cobra. Why? As mentioned its a classic design. However, most important, it IS the racing pedigree that it achieved like no other. Fact is, the Cobra and its power plant, the 289 is the only one the FIA gave to an American car/manufacturer to achieve this distinction. Also, its the most copied (kit car) in history. Its value (and rarity) are historic. Lastly, IF I could afford BOTH cars, they would be proudly displayed in my garage, and enjoyed fully.

Cobras are way cool but I would take the split window  :)

Give me the vette not that the cobra is a bad car, but it is kind of a custom car. British body and american drivetrain, So give me the all American car.

Cobras, Tigers and the Jensen 'Interceptor' were called 'hybrids' back in the day. Now, that term is applied to electric/gas eco throw a aways.

The 289 Cobra is an icon, but the ‘63 split-window is probably the prettiest car of all time, American or otherwise, and an absolutely unique piece of design that brought automotive aesthetics what feels like a decade forward in one year. I’ll take the ‘Vette!

I agree, the Corvette is a better looking design. Funny that the Cobra could have been powered by Chevy instead, but Chevrolet declined Shelby's offer. I don't feel too sorry for Shelby though....it still turned out pretty good for him.

The 289 Cobra was a slightly modified AC Ace in the design department. That said, the 427 Cobra was a new American design and in my opinion IS more of a beautiful design than the 'Vette. I say that not knocking the '63 Split Window at all, it is also a beautiful car, no doubt. Automotive 'Styling' is without any question, a personal preference. Just like some guys will have the hots for a blonde, while others for a brunette.

I'm a big fan of Cobra's. I built a kit car in the 90's because of that. They are beautiful, but in a different way. But honestly, to me the styling of a 427 is that of a 289 on steroids. No new cutting edge design. Now the Daytona Coupe is another thing. That is a real beauty! If only the rear was more stylish, but it's design purpose was racing and it did that well because of the kammback styling.

Well I do have an opinion on this one. Still a large portion of the Pro Mod and Top Sportsman cars are 63 split windows. Its something that in 2021 you can go 220 mph in a 1963 body style. They got it right. Granted they are aftermarket stretched, widened bodies and chassis but still 80% correct to the original body. With that being said I did destroy a nice 63 roadster at the Atlanta NHRA divisional. Not much left of that car. Pic attached for your viewing pleasure......

That totally sucks. Such a nice race car. I cringed when I saw your post/pictures. Im sure we all can agree, Cobra's and 'Vette's are some of the most beautiful and beloved cars ever made!

63 split window is my pic. Love the Corvette. Always wanted a mid year. Best Corvette body style in my opinion.

WOW, that came out of nowhere! lol. Yes, the Cheetah was very fast. However, very ill handling, and some would say 'dangerous'.

You just described Marilyn Munroe. She was all those things and pretty good looking. Back to the original question I choose the Corvette because few would know if you have a real Cobra.

More like Courtney Love! LOL
Only the untrained eye cant see if they are a replica. 'I' can spot a fake a mile away...
That said, IF I was mega-rich, my collection would include Corvettes, Cobras and GT-40s. (and a host of Muscle Cars!). One can dream...
