Title: Pick only one.
Post by: crossboss on March 27, 2021, 12:10:20 AM
Boys,
More fun. You can only pick one. 1970 Buick GS 455cid Stage 1, OR 1970 Oldsmobile 442 455cid W-30. Remember, only one!

ALL THE WAY
1970 Buick GS 455cid Stage 1

Reason: In Memory of a Car Friend Jim Derdorf of Bremerton Wa whom purchased a New Stratomist Blue Poly 1970 1970 Buick GS 455cid Stage 1 from Hazelwood Buick

I do not hang with the Olds Crowd  (Joking)

* I know this  is ANOTHER of many Buick Friends   Scott Kicking 67 GS400

GS stage 1 all day long.

Boys,
Excellent choice. However, I do like both. In my opinion, IF your going with a 442 W-30 the 'holy grail' would be in the Hurst colors of black and gold.

Boys,
Imagine that 442 W-30 with this experimental HEMI under its hood!

I base mine on the look of the two as much as the engine. The buick front end to me is much cleaner and smoother looking than the 442. Although in all honesty I would own a nice example of either if money and space weren't an issue. As for the Hurst gold and black, yeah it looks great but now imagine that GS as a GSX in yellow and black.

I agree, that GSX is one bad dude of a car! Im with ya, IF I also could afford it, both would be in my garage. Here is a Saturn Yellow and Black GSX for your viewing pleasure!

Boys,
Since both are such beautiful cars, here you go.
Enjoy!

GS Stage 1, there was one two houses away growing up. That car could get with the program in a major way.

I go with the Buick. A friend had a 70 and I had a 73. In 73 none of the cars had any power but my Stage 1 455 made you forget it was 1973. It was a black with white interior Century (Skylark) with power everything. I traded it in for a new 78 Caprice. I understand now that they only made about 600 Stage 1,s that year. All I have now is a picture and my exwife is in it.

I have to agree, the Buick GS 455 Stage 1 got with the program. Its the only car that mopped up my 428 Cobra Jet.

This car is the first time I had any involvement with a Turbo 400 tranny. My neighbor could stage that car, somehow power brake it and launch just pushing me back in the seat I never figured an automatic could do. Could turn the Peerless 60 series into pure smoke with no problem. Impressive to say the least!

Absolutely agree! My buddies '70 GS (the one that ate my CJs lunch) was just like you described: slight stall and floor it...launched like a pro stocker. Very quick. Torque, baby!
