Title: 1969 Z28 Shifter Stick

Factory Z/28 Hurst shifter levers are push in and have a retainer to hold them in place.

Will take slight issue with this statement. The 5325 Hurst handle has 1(one) hole. There is a single hole through the bayonet portion, yet it is not used for attaching handle to shifter body. It serves no purpose and no fastener (bolt(s)) is/are used to attach handle to shifter body.

Post by: z28z11 on January 31, 2021, 02:36:39 AM: Actually, there is a depression in the "paddle" section of the '69 Hurst handle that does have a function in mounting the handle to the shifter body - there are two stainless shims the hold the rubber isolators in place that are present on each side of the flat portion of the mounting blade - it keeps the handle assembly from pulling out of the offset arm in the top of the shifter. Handle was mounted in isolators to reduce felt driveline vibration that transmitted through the handle.

Aftermarket reproduction Hurst round handles mount like the flat handled aftermarket shifter handles - two holes for the Competition Plus aftermarket shifter body.

Post by: R68GTO on January 31, 2021, 09:44:56 PM: Make sure you ell the plater to not grind out the rust pits where the handle inserts into the shifter. Mine did that on an original stick and turned it into garage art. Nice garage art, but had to source another shift handle.

I bought a lot of shifters in the 1980s and 90s just to use the stick on aftermarket Hurst Shifters.

back then a worn out OEM shifter was cheap at the swap meets but the round Hurst stick was popular to convert to a bolt on.

Same thing with the 67-68 Muncie shifter. I used to buy them and convert to a bolt on for aftermarket Hurst Shifters
