Title: Decode 08 9 V on a CE stamped block
Post by: 69RALLYSPORTZ28 on August 22, 2020, 12:43:29 AM
Does 08 9 V on the machined surface on the bottom of the passenger side back corner indicate a Flint assembly date on a CE block?
The block is a 3970010 with a casting date of G 28 9

Aug 1969 Assembly Date which does align with the casting date of July 28th 1969 Casting date.
"Starter" mounting pad.

not 100%sure  but it looks like CE0 if I am right it was 1970.  The rest I just dont know.

My CE block in my 68Z  is CE9B  9 for 69, and I read  the B was for short block.

V on the oil pan rail surface would be for Flint V8 assembly. There are pictures of similar stampings in the CE thread here: http://www.camaros.org/forum/index.php?topic=12873.0;all

Per GM's letter, the 'B' represents the 3rd time thru the sequence numbers for that year's CE blocks... ie.   after the first pass, it goes to A..., then B...
