Title: Hard to start after sitting
Post by: Chuck69Z on June 29, 2020, 09:57:37 AM
Engine used to start after sitting a few weeks with normal cranking time. Yesterday would not fire, finally put a little gas down the carb and fired up. Ran the car down the road and let it sit for a few hours and started up normal. Is this a gasket problem or carb?

I'd check fuel pump first.

If they haven't been started in a week. I pull the aircleaner lid and fill my Holley fuel bowls through the vent tubes - the Quadrajets only get a splash of fuel down the throttle bores. Both then fire off as soon as they turn over.
FWIW The later Holley equipped LT1's 71 - 72have phenolic spacers to take up volume in the fuel bowl in -order to lower the amount of fuel which evaporates to the atmosphere, thereby reducing emissions.
Here is a photo of one I picked up for my LT1.
