Title: Door Weatherstripping Opinions
Post by: Tinkerr on June 04, 2020, 04:24:06 AM
It's time to purchase weatherstripping for the doors. A search came up with Metro latex and Camaro Specialties as the preferred brands, but the most recent thread was 5 years old. Are they still the ones to use or is there another company to consider? Thanks

Last ones I used were latex foam roof rails and latex foam door seals from OER both sealed great and the doors closed like original.

Suggest you take a look at Steele Rubber Co. products.   I used other brands before Steele, & they didn't hold up over time.

I was told by my resto shop to buy/use the Metro, not sure if they are latex though.  They also said the expensive latex offered by some vendors do not hold up.

I would also be interested in people's answer to this and would also like to know if there is one particular brand/type that doesn't require slamming the doors to get them to close tight.

I like the Classic Industries OER Latex roof rail weatherstrip, they didn't have latex door weatherstrip. So a mixed set door is still a little hard to shut, but seals are best for minimal air noise and water leak at top corner. Sauron has commented before about removing the door stops and putting a ratchet strap around the hole body and allowing seal to take a set over X number days? Maybe he can comment more on that.

I had a set of latex from HBC and a set from camaro specialties.  One set the end tore off, and the set on the car are junk. I cant remember which set was which but neither were good

I doubt seriously if either HBC or Camaro Specialties are making their own weatherstrips; most likely they are reselling from someone else.

Update on the weatherstripping. I originally purchased the OER latex roof rail weatherstripping($200) a couple years ago. For the doors I was going to use the same brand, but they don't make latex anymore. After the responses on here, I called Camaro Specialties, they sold their product to Soffseal. At the spring Carlisle I mention to a rep at a Camaro parts vendor the gap I have between the window and the weatherstripping. His response was they could never get the latex to seal properly. You need the Soffseal. Well $55 later, Soffseal on the roofrail and the doors, I still have the gap. I've adjusted the glass again and again, add 1/8" lift to the weatherstripping on the door, added 1/8" to the vertical roof rail by making the seal between body and rail thicker. I can't roll the top of the door in it with mess up the door and Quarter panel alignment. See the light in the picture need to fill that gap. Sorry for the long reply.

This is how the OER roof rails fit with my 69.
