Title: Front bumper date code
Post by: bobs69z on May 13, 2020, 10:53:48 PM
Are front bumpers date coded?  I saw an old thread that said no. There is a 259 stamped on my front bumper. It’s 06A build. That would make 25th week (first week of June)?  Is that a stretch?  Bob

Can you post a picture of the stamp and the location for reference?
Haven't seen one stamped from the factory/supplier before, but much to learn still!
First thought is that it may possibly be a customer/job identifier mark if it was rechromed at some point, but maybe not?

Bob I dug out that front bumper today and had a good look. With a bright lamp, I could make out the following, in 2 locations either side of the centre of the bumper, near the top edge:
F   1   2   M   3   0
There is a reasonable space between each character/digit, unlike the one on your bumper - would guess at 3/4", but will measure tomorrow. Tried to get photos, but iPhone had trouble focussing; will have another go tomorrow.
To avoid any confusion, this bumper isn't from my car (still has it's VE3) but I got it from a guy who put a brand new repro on during his restoration, this one has all the signs of being OE so far as I can tell.

I happen to have bumper off my 68 std coupe 06A build NOR. Car is a survivor, I have it since 74 and don't believe bumper was changed prior.  Only numbers I could find were on passenger side - 80E23  - 3 is upside down.

Here's those iPhone pictures:
First one has 'M   3   0'
Second has 'F'
Need to get another picture showing the '1   2'........
