Title: Spring in lower radiator hose?
Post by: red69 on May 12, 2020, 03:27:05 PM
I purchased a new NAPA (Gates) lower radiator hose for my 69 small block Z-28, it has no spring in the hose. Did factory hoses have a spring? I've always thought it helped prevent collapsing from suction.

Factory lower hoses had the spring. Not sure why the aftermarket hoses do not include it, unless they expected you to reuse the spring from the old hose or just so they can sell you another part.

From what I understand the spring was originally installed in the lower hose to hold it open for the quick pressure fill during the final assembly at the plant. Supposedly after that, it wasn't really needed anymore. But, it did leave the factory with it.
