Title: 4053 Carb adjustments

In front of the choke housing where the 4053 number is located there are 2 screws that have something to do with air. Is there an adjustment for these 2 screws when this carb is used on a 302? Thank you, Joe

Usually 1.5 turns out from fully in.  I was told and shown how to do this when I was about 10 years old.

You can tune better using a vacuum gauge.

Thanks Bryon. The carb needed some serious work. Stuff that I couldn't do here including some re-machining.
You're not referring to the fuel mixture screws...right?..Joe

If you're referring to this (see below), I believe those are machining plugs, not screws.

 There are screws under those plugs. They appear to be some of the problems according to the carb builder....Joe

Sorry for the mix-up.  I thought you were talking about the idle mixture screws. 

I am not aware of what those screws do, if anything. The holes above the screws are normally filled with junk.  A lot of carbs don't even have the holes machined into the housing.

Those are the bleeder screws and they are set by Holley when the carbs are built.  You should never have to go in there.  I don't have to fool with these on my Stock Eliminator '67 Z28 race car either.  If someone monkeyed with them, they may have to set and recalibrated.  Have you checked everything else out on the carb?  Warpage, correct jetting, dirt in the carb, etc.

Typically there is a little white lithium grease smeared in the hole...

Eric does fantastic work.  I just finished rebuilding an original 3837 for the 67 Chevelle I'm doing.  Was able to keep the original finish to match the car.
