Post by: DONCZ28 on January 15, 2020, 12:37:17 PM
How many 69 Brown Vinyl Top cars are documented?  This could be the rarest option yet.

Since I had never seen one with a brown vinyl top I thought I would add a picture or two of a 1969 Camaro with one.  More pictures can be seen on the site where this car is for sale: https://car-from-uk.com/sale.php?id=203358&country=us

This brown does not look like the sample in the dealer album. OEM almost has a green appearance.

Most of the brown tops came on gold or burnished brown cars. Though one was on a butternut yellow 69.

I think the brown v-top over Champagne would look fantastic.

I know of two cars with that combination. Obviously there were more, but seeing that it was the lowest production color, there weren't many more. :)

Where does this 1798 production of brown vinyl top cars come from? I thought there was no data on colors, just the number of vinyl top cars.

"until recently there was no known production numbers on colors. CRG has obtained a copy of these unpublished production numbers and they are shown here."

Thanks for bringing that to my attention, Kurt. So those are actual percentages and not estimates ? So for example .9% Tuxedo black cars in 68 or .009 x 235,147 (total production in 68) = 2116.23 black cars built in 68 ?  :) Or Ermine white .072 x 235,147 = 16930.584 white cars built in 68.

Is that safe to assume and am I figuring that correctly ?

I do like the brown vinyl top on some of those colors ! :D

Kurt, were you able to obtain similar official figures on interior color usage, and if so can it be broken down further by combination of exterior and interior?

I see there are now official numbers on paint colors. My question was ,how many Brown vinyl top cars were produced?

This is my Z28 Camaro with brown vinyl top.  Pic was taken in 1982.  Top was faded.

Is there a way to post the 2 charts just to see the CRG estimates, vs what was just released?

I am curious how close they were, and if any colors were off more than others
thanks

Been here for months... http://www.camaros.org/interior.shtml#intcolors
Combo of ext and int - No. And imagine how complicated that table(s) would be......

Did you see what Paul posted?

This data doesn't go thru the extended production year.

Pretty close. There are archives on the internet....

interesting Hugger Orange dropped 3.5 from the previous chart from Crg calculations. So Hugger orange went from most popular color to 4th?

Thanks for posting that. Considering the limited data the CRG is working with, those estimates, overall, were quite impressive, imo.

Thanks Garth. I know of no other vintage Chevrolet (GM?) model that even has estimated color distribution.
Most changed less than a percent. Interesting that colors like black and HO were over estimated - tells me that those colors were on cars that were more likely to be saved (and thus in the db). And frost green cars on the other hand were not as likely to be saved.

That is also what I gathered from the difference in numbers. Just surprised me, that since HO was used a lot in the advertising, and many people gravitate towards a red-ish color that it wouldn't have been a #1 or 2. But I guess red was under represented, only by .7 but I would have though it would have been lower for the same reason, since those cars may have gotten saved more often and restored.

Many cars that weren't originally hugger orange got repainted to HO over the years.   Did the original data base derived data only consider original cowl plate codes? or the colors as reported by owners?

The colors in the db are from docs or trim tags.

Some of us spend hundreds of hours per year searching for, documenting and logging data. There has to be evidence to support the data when it goes into the database.

I wonder if reproduction trim tags can effect the numbers
A reproduction trim tag would more likely be made in colors like black, hugger orange, and daytona yellow

Repro tags are flagged and not included. Out of 21,000+ cars, they are decimal dust.

And remember all the frost green cars that aren't in the db in the correct ratio.

For the Dover white does that factor in the Z11 and Z10 cars? (4175 cars)

Of course, no other way to account for them.
