Title: Looking for a radiator shop around Charlotte
Post by: jvb6648 on January 07, 2020, 04:17:48 PM
Any recommendations for a radiator shop in Charlotte or Greensboro area who can correctly recore my 3 row radiator?

The 'key word' in your post that adds a lot of difficulty is 'correctly'...  For a '69 Z28 radiator, I was unable to find ANY shop anywhere that could obtain 'correct' cores.   What was necessary was to disassemble my original radiator and send the top and bottom rails to the company to USE in building a replacement radiator core, and then a radiator shop can install it into your tanks and brackets...  This makes it very complicated, and more costly and time consuming to get the radiator 'correctly' recored...

By correct I mean new 3 row core same tanks and ID tag back where it belongs. It's a driver, just want it as close to original as I can get it. I doubt if a 52 year old core would still be good.

You can get a functional core installed probably anywhere by any competent shop, just make sure they KNOW that you're expecting the tags to be replaced (or remove the tags yourself before taking it to the shop), but the top/bottom rails on the core may be distinctly different than the original (for originality judging).

Thanks for the advise, I've one local and one out of state I'm going to talk to. I'll be sure to ask about the rails. It would be nice to keep them the same but if not so be it. Not looking to put it in any shows.

Don't let them trash the rails - someone can use them....

Glen-Ray has done excellent repairs for me after two self proclaimed expert shops trashed a radiator. He reuses the hat channels.  He used to have some Harrison cores in stock.

I didn't realize how fast time slips away - there are a lot of conversations about cores scattered throughout the CRG (witness this one that mentions Glen-Ray a couple of years back). I only wish I could find a good local shop to recore mine: multiples are certainly expensive -
