Title: Turn signal shaft knob?

I bought a NOS turn signal shaft 3909580 for my 68 Camaro. I need to install the knob, after I paint it blue, black is all that's available. I thought the knob was pressed on the stalk, but the one I ordered just drops on with no resistance. Are they glued on? The diameter of the knob is a tad larger where it meets the shaft. Is it supposed to be a flush, smooth transition to the shaft? Thanks Paul

I did a search, not much on the tantalizing topic of turn signal shafts.

I would wonder why they did not mold it with a slight interference fit for a press fit for tightness, figures.
Could you just use a quality two part adhesive meant for bonding metal-plastic-rubber? Such as a Loctite or Permatex product found locally.

Follow up Q.

Can a badly pitted original be chrome plated to renew the stalk finish?
I have heard the shape of repops and originals are different?

I believe a 2 part epoxy would work. I wasn't sure if the poor fit was because I purchased a poor reproduction knob or that is the way they are all made.

I'm sure you could have a original rechromed, but NOS(service replacements) are readily available on E-Bay for $20 or so. Either way you would be where I am, attaching a repo knob. Thanks Paul

I like weatherstrip adhesive for that kind of joint. Epoxy should work too.
