Title: 69 Camaro from Caracas, Venezuala
Post by: Heftyr on November 06, 2019, 04:40:34 PM
Hi, just got on this forum and saw the CRG info requesting if anyone had a Foreign built camaro. I bought one a few weeks ago and it is correct according to what is described in the article. JC in Vin, RS, Power Steering and Power Disc brakes, Automatic with A/C and Power windows. I was skeptical in buying it until I found your article and it documented all those options. Then figured I have a rare 69 camaro and it is a survivor car with only about 47,000 miles on it. It also has the clock and console. Oh and it has a KPM not a MPH Speedometer!! So kool to see people reactions to the "200 MPH" speedo until I tell them that is 120 MPH in KPM. The only question I have is that the RS badging is slightly different.. It has the RS on grille and tail panel but no side indicators at all nor the motor size. Also it has the "Rally Sport" spelled out on the rear panel as well..like "rally RS sport"... would that be correct? Sometimes the foreign cars are badged differently.

So I can only post 4 at a time...more in another post. These show the front end, Speedometer in KPH (Note AC Delco symbol), The window as it was made in Caracas, and Tail Panel with the rally sport spelled out.

Also has the dash clock, console, automatic and A/C... oh and the LM1 350 motor, TH350 and 12 Bolt posi with multi-leaf springs. Runs and drives great..needs the A/C compressor installed and finished to work.

Just went out and took more pics...Shows Speedo in KPH, Power Windows and Clock..Also the Steering wheel which I can not verify if that would have been installed from factory since it is a very rare option.

More showing better pics of the Vin with the JC in it, Cowl Tag which shows the full Vin and "Color Code" which is unclear what they refer to and the factory installed A/C unit.

I am not 100% but it does not look like it was replaced. The entire car looks like it aged together but it did have 1 re-paint some time ago. Who ever had it took good care of it and it is just a true survivor non-restored vehicle.

Interesting that there is no “350” engine badge on the front fender.  The spelled our “Rally Sport” on the tail panel is also an interesting addition.

Maybe I just missed the information, but I'm very curious...    Heftyr:  Are you in Venuzuela?  and is the car still there?  OR has it been brought to the US where you purchased it?  Where are you located?

If people would at least put their country or state in their profiles, it would certainly help with this kind of information.. :)

I assumed the U.S. as people were commenting on the 200 mph speedo. In Caracas they would know it was KPH

did they cute a rally sport fender emblem in half and add it to the " RS " emblem on the tail panel?

I am in Florida, USA..at some point the car was brought into the US...I only bought it about 3 weeks ago and from a dealer so he had no info on the background. As for the tail panel emblem, it could be a full rallysport eblem cut in half and installed but I have no way to prove if that was from the factory or not. Never seen it on an RS camaro before but it is aged liked the RS on the back.

Did you know enough about Camaros at your time of purchase to know/recognize it was a foreign built Camaro? or did you find out only later?   Did you pay a premium for the car? or get it cheaper (for it being of foreign assembly?)...

My first car in high school was a 69 Camaro..only paid $800 for it and took all my newspaper money to buy it. Was a base camaro with 350, automatic but it ran like a bat out of hell. Funny to think it was considered a Used car back then..traded it in when I graduated for an economical car at the time.. ugh a Chevy Chevette. So I am familiar with camaros and knew it was an import car before i purchased it by the description but did not know until I saw this one for sale and started investigating it..Google is king! I did not pay what I think was a premium but just a fair negotiated price. That's why I joined this forum to get more info on it and CRG requested if anyone had one to post in here..so here is one!!

Thanks for posting and telling us about your car; we don't see many of those... :)   It's very interesting to see the differences.

Welcome! Finally got a minute.
The badging is not original. Somewhere there is a post about the car when it was on ebay.
The car was originally red, then was shot white in 71. Had the original LM1 back in 2015, but that went away, car was painted maroon and the disc brakes were added.

Oh kool..that's good to know I may be able to find more history on the vehicle..Do you have the link to that or some kind of way that I can find it? Thanks.
