Title: Alternator stamp and date check
Post by: BULLITT65 on October 31, 2019, 03:06:21 AM
So I have been looking for the correct alternator for my white 69Z. I ran across a guy that has this one. My car is a early LA 10B car.
So 2 questions:
 is this a legit stamp?
is this too early for my car?

( I also sent the image to Gary, hopefully he can blow up the stamp area)

Expanding an images size does not add information, Austin.   You need a higher resolution image...
What looks 'odd' to me with the image you have is that the area with the stamping appeared *different* than the remainder of the alternator case...  as if it had been played with, altered, etc...   Take it if they give it to you but based on that image, I would not pay anything more than a core charge for it..

JMO...

As ever, just my opinion but based on that photo, I don't like the '8' in the date code, and the area around the '7' in '837' looks suspect.
Agree with Gary that in the overall picture, the stamping area has a distinctly different finish......

Here is 2 other alternators he is selling:
He also has some other parts listed on ebay:

That ebay seller in TN is well-known. Has multiple user ID's. Long thread over at sYc. Follows forum discussions. Caveat Emptor.

For an early VN October build, I would be looking for 8J13 or 8J28.

I see a lot of January - May dated ones. Seems harder to find the earlier dated ones. In fact the pic above is the only one I have found, and that one is bogus.
back to the drawing board I guess...🤨

You're killing me get Buddy.
The CRG members at work, it's a great thing.
I am sure I will posting another 837 alternator to be reviewed. Always appreciate the honest opinions, and advice.
