Title: Rear antenna location on drivers side
Post by: 67jeffreyt on August 24, 2019, 06:21:06 PM
Found this 68 on a Facebook post, claims original 51,000 mile paint and body, my question is how unusual is a driver's side rear antenna? Car is all original 6 cylinder convertible.

Me neither, didn't know if it could be a dealer installed option or screw up

I had seen that on FB too last night and thought it was odd.
It's a first I have seen an antenna on the drivers side.

I had a 1968 ss that was optioned with a passenger side rear antenna. I never saw one on the drivers.

The front passenger side antenna was standard with the AM and the AM/FM radio. The rear passenger side antenna was optional with the AM radio. Anything other than that was not factory installed, so either dealer installed or from a prior owner. I have (IIRC) two 68's in the database with the antenna on the front driver side. This is the first one I've ever seen with the antenna on the rear driver side.

Remember, dealers were free to do whatever they wanted to do. The factory wasn't. And this includes Fisher body (the folks that installed the rear antenna).
