I looked at six 660 muncie transmissions today and I noticed that some of the 660 numbers were smaller on some trannys and larger on others . Was there a time frame that they casted the smaller and bigger numbers or is one for the 68 and other for a 69? thanks

I have done more of these in my life than I care to talk about. The smaller numbers are the earlier versions used in 1968. This was changed sometime during the later part of 1968 in the early model '69s. Very late '69s have 661 cases.

Thanks Jerry ,thats the answer I was looking for. Do you think the small letter 660 case would be correct in an October 1968 build dated 69 camaro? Thanks for the help this is a great site, Luke

Jerry , how late ? I never knew a 69 model year car could have a 661 case Muncie .

Late very October and 11A cars have been found with 661 cases. I know this because I rebuilt original transmissions for the vehicles.

Jerry, should my 10E car have a 660, or 661 case? VIN number 124379N704511
Thanks,

It could but this transition was sporadic at best. I have only seen a few with 661 case, not a lot.
If it were my car, I would go with a 660 case.
