Thanks, but it didn't work too well. I am looking for vehicle history. I paid the $10 and it showed me purchasing the vehicle from the previous owner. No more history than that. :(

So, I guess it hasn't been titled since you sold it. What color is it and what state did you sell it in? When did you sell it?

It is Daytona Yellow w/black stripes. I just bought it in May 2019. The previous owner owned it for about 11 years. He restored it.
I am in Ohio as is the seller.
I'm trying to find the history of the car. Everything about it says Z28 (staggered shocks, 12 bolt rear end, 8000 rpm tach, etc...) but it's not the original motor and it was manufactured in California, so the cowl plate doesn't have the X33.

What is the code stamped on the front edge of the passenger side axle tube?
Is the original transmission a Muncie? If so, what is stamped on it on the edge of the main case just ahead of the tail shaft, on the passenger side?

Being an LA car, check top of gas tank for a broadcast copy; if the previous owner didn't remove and clean or replace the tank it may still be there. If so, it will be very fragile so best option is to drop the fuel tank and take hi-res photos of it. There are threads here with good advice about preserving broadcast copies.

I believe the original transmission was a Muncie. The previous owner replaced it, He said he was having trouble with it - but I think he may still have it on a shelf. I will check with him. Also, I'll check the front edge of the passenger side axle tube.
I did ask the previous owner (he restored it) about a broadcast sheet on top of the gas tank. He said when he got the car, what was there was nearly disintegrated and he could not get any good information from it at all. I have contacted chevymuscledocs.com, they are going to provide me with dealer information along with the date the car was produced. I'm hoping this can be a place to start to get more information and track the history.

FWIW, I have an LA car with VIN sequence fewer than 400 Camaros before yours.
Trim tag is 04A, body scheduling number B159, official production date per NCRS is April 3, 1969.

Look for additional indicators - single 3/8" fuel line, 4 leaf springs, proper Muncie speedometer cable exit, routing and clips, reinforcing patch for dual exhaust cars on the outside of the rear half frame behind the driver's side rear wheel, and double check the top of the cowl and behind the heater box cover (more difficult) to make sure of the VIN you have. If the engine is supposed to match, post the stamping and the VIN codes if you want to generate some competent opinions. Most everything can be faked nowadays, always a good idea to scope everything out if you have no documentation.

I just purchased the car (a 69 Z28) a few months ago. The previous owner did a beautiful frame-up restoration on it 11 years ago. He was honest and told me it had all the markings of a Z28, but there is no way he knows for sure if it is or not. He had to replace the motor and trans when he restored it (he still may have the trans). He did replace it with a 302, it has houndstooth seats he had re-upholstered. It does have the 12 bolt rear end, 4 leaf springs, staggered shocks, 8000 RPM tack (clock in middle). I didn't pay the true N/M Z28 price, I'm really just curious and would like to get as much info as I can!

what kind of 302 did he go back with? does it have a VIN stamp by the filter?

going to get more information from previous owner. Car is in the shop now getting a new speedometer, a new clock, an emergency brake cable and some bling for the exterior. The guy in the shop did find a stamping on the passenger front axle. BS 1026. Not sure if that means anything or not. He also mentioned it has a dummy light for low fuel, while the gas gauge is center console. He said that's another sign it is a real Z.
Sorry for the late responses, I've been down with some kind of a bug for a few weeks now.

BS 1026 is a 3.31:1 12 bolt positraction axle assembled October 26th. Given that VIN L528806 was final-assembled on or about April 8, 1969 it is unlikely it is original to the car. Very few Z/28s were built with a 3.31 axle.
The low fuel warning light was part of the Special Instrumentation [U17] option. While U17 is common on Z/28s, it was an option on any 8 cylinder Camaro.

I agree with Bill. Axle spread date to car assembly date is quite large. Most Z28s were 3.73 or 4.10 - and very few had a 3.31

you are spot on with the dates! According to NCRS, the official production date was 4/10/69. It was delivered to Lambert Chevrolet in Orland, CA.
