Title: A great place to lose a car. ( the hot Rod power tour)
Post by: BULLITT65 on June 11, 2019, 10:09:03 PM
Sounds like thieves are targeting what ever they can make off with:

5 cars stolen over night. Hopefully they were insured, and the owners can replace them.

That is terrible, it's always been on my bucket list to do the Power tour in my 68 SSRS 396. After owning it almost 40 years, if it were stolen it would devastate me regardless what the insurance pay out would be.  :'(

Well I know each guys car is his castle, but without sounding to up-ity, these were not necessarily considered rare collectibles.

That's a well traveled area. And it does look like cars were picked by availability not rarity. Just up the boulevard we have security 24/7 at the Autofair.  Really hate to hear about this.

I'm not sure "rare or collectible" come's into it, they're someones pride and joy that's been stolen. You comments come across as a bit flippant.

I hope the thieves choke on a chicken bone and die.

Read the comments in the news article. He was being relatively kind.

This stinks. Criminals are the scum of the earth. To 'me' it does not matter what kind of car, even IF its a worthless beat up '72 Pinto to a million dollar exotic, its someones 'baby'. Hope the authorities catch the thieves, AND the cars are recovered back to the owners.

I looked at a friend's pictures from that tour and learned two things.
1 By the next day at least one of the owners whose car was stolen had a new Mustang rental car to finish the tour.
2 Many of the cars are not even older cars, let alone hot rods... several station wagons and newer trucks.
Interesting...

I noticed the same thing lakeholme and made similar comments in another post about this very theft.  Knowing the types of high end and expensive cars that attend Power Tour, I was a bit surprised to see the cars stolen were station wagons and pickup trucks that really don't hold much value other than to their owners.  Usually when this stuff happens, from what I've seen, these types of cars aren't the targets.

Sucks that it happens in any case.

One thing I would never do is post on social media (including here) that I was going on the Power Tour or any other event ahead of time.  If thieves are looking for a particular kind of car for a "client" then you've just told them where you will be.  Just like posting on FB when you are going on vacation to give thieves a heads up that you will be gone.

I totally agree with this statement. Just like photoshoped/filtered selfie's and a picture of what their about to eat! We all know that it will eventually turn into. $--T!
