Looking at this car. It is supposed to have the original engine. I had them remove the paint from the front pad. Not that great of a cleaning job... Opinions? Danny
-
couple more.. Edge smooth at production number, rough at VIN.... D
-
I sent you a PM
-
Re-stamp, the “O” in MO is totally wrong. It should be a “race track” looking O. Look at other examples.
-
Not original.

Danny were you a buyer if it checked out ok?

I have a couple friends that I have been helping that don't have the knowledge when it comes to purchasing classic cars. But they want to get into it. Not that I have a ton of knowledge, but I have more then them. Then I have another friend that is always looking and wants me to go in with him as a partner. I am still looking at 3 '68 Z/28's and a '69, and also a '63 Corvette. So I guess the answer to the question is yes... I, we, are looking to purchase. Danny
-
Do you know who bought Dave's old 68 that had the original tires with it?
-
It's currently in my garage. Danny
-
AWESOME... that is such a great car, I am glad it's getting the appreciation it deserves. Dave and I rode out to the long term owner's house when I was out there a few years ago... Everything we looked at still has not been revealed... wait til the other cars start appearing. A COUPLE OF KILLER KILLER 67 BB's - vettes and camaros! As well as a few more 69's... and another 68 or two...
I told a few people that if they wanted a Lemans blue 68 Z... they should buy this car, they would likely not ever find a more complete original car.
-
The previous owner had this car before Dave for about 48 years. He no longer has any cars that are older than the late 70's and 80's. So not sure what happened to all those cars you mentioned. I have spent HOURS and HOURS on this car. The picture I posted is after I cut and polished the whole car by HAND! I will be starting a post hopefully soon. Gotta get a lot of pictures organized. Danny

The cars referenced are cars DAVE and I looked at back in 2016... not cars owned by this guy. (though he would have been a far better care taker than some of the other people)
FWIW I have AND MARK BULAW has tried to get Dave to clean, detail, and polish his cars, however he appears to be afraid of hurting any original paint. -
After I was out there and worked on the Lemans Blue L78 conv, it looked 10 times better after only 2 applications of Meguires number 7 and I told him to put another couple of coats into the paint to rehydrate it. He couldn't believe the interior came out clean and the paint shined...
I wanted to do the Yellow Yenko, the Silver 69 RS/Z with original paint, the 26k mile white white RS/SS air conv, and the White Red 69 350 4 speed survivor too... killer cars which really need 40-60 hours of detailing.
I realize 100 pct original paint is cool and all
BUT
Personally I would rather have a VERY presentable 90pct original paint car than to have a 98 pct original paint car that has scratches, dents and missing paint...
I know ALL about correcting and polishing original GM Metallic Lacquers and getting them glossy...
Meguires number 7 and then selective hand polishing using swirl remover.

Nice job ya did.. I am an amateur but I think it turned out OK. I didn't REALLY cut it much. Just used a regular moist waxing pad and Race Glaze Leveling Compound. Then the Race Glaze polishing sealant. No machines or 5,000 or 2,00 sand cloth.. I am sure it could go another step with an electric polisher, but I don't have one or the knowledge. My friend used to say you have to heat it up and don't be afraid. I used to watch him push that machine down hard, no thanx. See the picture of the water . Danny

Yea...
what you do now is go around the car with a roll of masking tape and mark every scratch or marred area.
Then go around with some swirl remover and a soft cotton cloth, hand polish each scratch etc to achieve a 30-50% improvement in the appearance of each scratch marr etc, then go back over and hand glaze it with Meguires number 7.
Do not try to remove the entire scratch etc you don't want to get into the metallic...
BY removing 30-50% of every scratch or marr IT will improve the overall appearance of the car IMMENSELY!
-
Can I use the Meguires over the top of the Race Glaze sealant? Or do I need to clean the whole car first with a light stripper? Danny
-
I would try little area with the meguires over the race glaze, if it doesn't look good I would CLAY BAR the car first.
