Title: 1969 Chevrolet Camaro Berlinetta Lilac Show Car
Post by: bcmiller on April 14, 2019, 05:58:53 PM
OK, I am only going to say this once.  I would like to keep this thread focused on this car.  I don't want to dig up any old thoughts or posts about a different car of a certain color.

These 5 images all indicate that they were taken November 19, 1968 and were taken at the General Motors Technical Design Center.  Very cool interior in my opinion, and I also REALLY like the nose stripe!

I have a couple more pics, but I am trying to verify that they are the same car first before I post those.

Last one, with a close view of the nose...

And I tried to zoom in on the wheel.  It is fuzzy, but the best I could do.

That is so funny that you posted about this car today because I was thinking about it and was going to ask you if you had any pictures of it!  Thanks for posting them.

I believe this concept car was called the Berlinetta.

Two pictures of the car appear on page 43 of the book entitled Camaro: An American Icon by Gary Witzenburg.  The caption states: "Far out!  The 1969 Camaro Berlinetta show car boasted wire wheels, special grille, trippy upholstery, under-dash stereo tuner and a paint job in graduated shades of lavender."

The second picture seems to be a small version of one of the pictures you posted.  It also has the wood fence in the background.

I was never able to find any pictures of the car being displayed at an auto show or motorsports event.  It probably was shown at custom and hot rod events.  Does anyone know if it was featured in any of the period custom car magazines?

Thanks for posting.  I like the interiors too, especially the seats.

Probably the same car.  I can not imagine that they built more than one. :)  And these do have a Berlinetta label associated with each photo.

Two more pics, dated November 25, 1968. Showing the sunroof!

I like to resize the images smaller, which discourages people from grabbing and reusing photos. But that's just me.

WOW, great minds think alike!

I am going to do a thread on the Cherokee in about a week.  I saw that you had posted some in another thread in the past, with a lot of other stuff.  Kurt and I talked about individual threads for each concept car, so that is what and why I have been posting the way I have.  Watch for that Cherokee thread!

That park/turn signal lamp lens looks like an early version of what became the 1970-on RS style.

Awesome pictures!  I have never seen that car in pictures before, although I have heard about it.
