Does anyone know the correct stud length for a 396 with Q-Jet carb open air cleaner(L-34)? I had ordered one through HBC, the one they reference as correct and it was way to long, any one know where to find the correct one? I'm at the 11th hour of restoring my '68 .

Here is one from a '67 L35 Q/jet and still with original finish. This should be the same for 68?
Looks like a tad under 3 1/16".

Thanks Mike!, Is the wing nut phosphate coated as well?

Yes...but my lids are black. For 68 the lids were chrome so the wingnut is likely chrome too (?).

Does anyone know where to buy one of these 3" air cleaner studs? I have searched and not been successful in finding one and its' one of those finishing touches I need. Thanks

Paragon Corvette has a repro QJ stud.

Thanks for the help, but when I called Paragon to find out the length they said it is 3.5" long, so I am still on the hunt , I'm not sure why the repros are longer than the OE versions or why I cannot seem to find the correct one.

AMK offers several air cleaner studs. They do have a 1/4-20 x 3” stud (B-10030). They also offer a 1/4-20 x 3.5” stud which they list as equivalent to p/n 3921975 (agrees to what is called out in the AIM). AMK products are typically very accurate and I would go out on a limb and say the HBC one is wrong.

Downside is they have a $30 minimum order policy.

Thanks Bob! I have bought AMK bolts and didn't know they had these .

I don't see the little 'step' in the AMK stud. But, being it isn't visible when mounted it probably may not matter.

Mike,
Yes, I noticed that as well. I’ve yet to find anyone that sells the stud that has that detail. But You’re right, it’ll never be seen anyway.

I've always made my own out of 1/4 X 20 threaded rod to whatever length I needed. Might not be "technically correct" but I can make one for about fifty cent. Not to mention, you can't see the stud with breather assembly on the carb anyway.
