Title: 1967/1968 rear center bumper brackets.
Post by: camie67 on March 29, 2019, 11:01:30 PM
Are the rear bumper center brackets the same between '67 and '68 ?
Also is the center bracket supposed to have a large (~1 inch diameter) hole at one or both ends of the bracket?

Thanks

Yes 67 and 68 same in rear. There are holes but do not remember them being one inch but the 68 front bumper bracket has that one really big dia hole.

Here is a picture of an original '67 bracket. It has a 1" hole on one side only.
The only time I have seen two holes was on reproduction rear bumpers with a bracket already attached.

Mike, good point but when he stated center brackets I was not thinking Center Bracket that is riveted to bumper, but the other two on rear section.

Thanks Mike for the explanation and the Photo!
I was talking about the center riveted bracket.

P.S., this is the first time I have posted and it's cool to get this kind of help.
I am restoring a 67 RS/SS 350 right now, but several years ago I restored a 67 SS 350. Could have used the help then  :)

It's possible to have a '67,'68 center bracket with the 1 inch hole on both sides if you had a '68 with the U46 Lamp Monitoring option. The power wire for the license plate lamp would go through the hole on the passenger side and the fiber optic monitoring wire going to the license plate lamp would go through the hole on the driver's side.
