Has there ever been a 1969 Z-28 with a fiberglass Cowl Hood or any glass hood .. The reason I am asking is a just looked at 2 super nice Z-28,both had the cross ram on them and they both had glass hoods. I never remember seeing a Camaro with a stock glass hood but I have been wrong before . Thank you in advance.

They never came with either 2x4 or glass from the factory...Joe

Was the glass hood a dealer option ? Did the 2x4 ever come in the trunk or was it a dealer option ?

Neither were options or accessories for that matter. They had to be purchased from the parts counter. There were special pages for those racing parts...Joe

Here's the number for the hood, discontinued in the early '70s (at the same time as the disc brake 12 bolt rears, crossram conversion kits). It truly was a sad day, I remember thinking when I first read the article that I should have bought the crossram before it discontinued, as I had looked at one so equipped for sale in the fall of '71, about two years before I bought my X77. Hindsight is always 20-20 -

Well I see the hood was made by GM for the trans am series and it was discuss here in 2011 http://www.camaros.org/forum/index.php?topic=8105.0. I thought this guy had fake hoods on his Camaros.

They likely are (should I say possibly ?). There are several vendors that carry them as reproductions, GM fiberglass had to be exceedingly rare back in the day. I've known two cars that had them. one in '71, the other in the 90's, whcih was sold to a large Camaro parts vendor for mucho store credit (thousands) in the 90's, local car. The one in '71 was on a Z28 crossram equipped street car, Knoxville, TN.

Hi Steve, there are 2 for sale in Ebay 1 for almost 12k and a Nos 1 for 15k. I have a line on a complete cross ram that is dated with dated carbs and the guy I do cars for is interested . How would tell a real 1 from a fake ! The Nos has the box,pin set and the box it came in. How much do you think a cross ram and hood combo would add to the value of a car ? Regards Emo

The crossram would certainly make it more costly and less comfortable to drive on the street... Who cares what it does to the value? Cars are to DRIVE... :)

I have a friend with a 69Z and crossram setup. I've driven the car several times and I'm always amazed at how well it drives. Probably all in how you set it up.

I have an original fiberglass hood that I bought in the early 80's and now just getting started to build my Z but the hood had just the prop rod and no hood pin set with it, does anyone know where I can find a period correct hood pin set?

Im no expert on these hoods, however, the T/A Camaro fiberglass hoods appear to be some sort of injection molded deal..(aka Corvette and Shelby 'glass). IF that is the case, that indeed would be expensive over the traditional/common hand laid matting/gel coat versions. Its possible the hood pins and related hardware are most likely from an outside/aftermarket sourced vendor? They, as others from 'back in the day' look very close to what Mopar and Ford used.

I just recently saw a GM fiberglass Crossram hood for sale & I believe it had the hood pins with an installation diagram , Can’t recall if it also had the prop rod or not ... As far as buying a new hood Glasstek makes the hood that fits the Crossram air cleaner & it’s probably cheaper than the normal Camaro parts houses..
