Title: 1969 BB oilpan
Post by: joessz11 on March 05, 2007, 05:39:25 PM
Want to make sure I have the correct BB oil pan for my L78 4 speed.  Mine has two steps and two dimples.  I have seen others without the step.  Does anybody know which one is correct?  Thank you

If it looks like this first pic, it's a big car pan.  The second shot shows the pan you need....sorry for not having better pic.

In 1968 and 1969, the BB oil pans do not have a two step pan.  If I remember correctly, 1967 does not either.  I suspect that it's only the BB passanger cars that use the two step pan.  I'll have to go through my photos to kow for sure.

The two-step pan is a full size car oil pan.  It will not fit in the Camaro.

What did you get the second photo you posted?  Is it a GM file photo?  That engine looks like it could possibly be an L/89 based on the color scheme.
Got any more of those?

Steve

I pirated the picture from the 'net.  I believe it was a picture from Nickey showing engine pulled for a transplant.  Sorry, but it's the only one I have.

Not sure if this helps, but my 69's 396-325 oil pan was damaged in transport. I found a NOS one - probably one of the last ones on a shelf.  Here are some pictures of it before it was put on the car.
