Long shot but does anyone on here have any experience with the Lucas timed metering.........as run on Can-Am cars of the day.
I recently purchased a setup and have some general questions
-
I do not have any experience with them, however, are they the same as the Hilborn or Algon injection systems used on the Can-Am engines?
-
For reference, here is the 'side draft' Algon injection used on a Tunnel Port 427 Ford Can-Am engine.

Not sure if this is the Lucas injection your taking about as seen on a BB Chevy McLaren Can Am car.

Yes, the second pic is exactly it......I'm not familiar with the Algon but the Hillborn is slightly different as it is a constant flow system...the Lucas actually pulses the injectors like a modern day electronic fuel injection except all done mechanically.

I assume then the Lucas version should 'in theory' be the better tunable set up? That said, why not go with a conversion to electronic fuel injection using your set up, all the while it will 'look' vintage, yet be easier and more reliable. Just a consideration to think about...

Here is an example of what I was referring to. Its an EFI Hilborn injected Big Block, yet it looks vintage. Best of both worlds.

i think Hillborn now has a setup with the fuel rails running down the middle so you dont see them for a more vintage look.

Yes, that is correct. Here is an example:

Wow that’s pretty cool lookin!!!! Good to know for sure...those things look awesome,Id love to see one in a street car
Well I was planning on using this setup on an endurance boat so just sticking to the basics for the durability aspect....anyway they seem to have been the hot setup for Can-Am cars....I’m close to trying to just see what I can do just playing with it but my gut is telling me it’s outta my league lol.....just curious if anyone had messed with or ran one on here.
I’m about to send it to Kinsler but that ain’t cheap....pbly the smart move tho.

Try Inglese, or Hilborn. Either way, its not gonna be cheap. Keep us informed, and post some pictures of your set up when your done!
Here is a link to Inglese:

Where are you?
I have someone who knows the systems EXTREMELY well... We are in the Upstate SC Western North Carolina area- QUAIN STOTT - former promodified world champion who owns and runs the Southeastern Gasser drag race Series.
There are A LOT of mechanical fuel injection systems run in his series.
The costs of these are multiple thousands of dollars... and I know they get a 100# weight break VS carbs.
