Title: Searching for my '69 Camaro RS convertible
Post by: Titan912S on February 19, 2019, 06:43:04 PM
VIN 681724. Daytona Yellow. 307, 4-speed, PS, power top. Sold it in '99 because of a divorce. It went to Omaha. I've regretted selling this since the moment it went down the road. The agony was increased about 20 minutes after it drove away, in that my soon-to-be-ex-wife called and said she changed her mind, that I didn't need to sell it. Called the new owner immediately to buy it back, but no deal.

A few years later I called the guy I sold it to, and he said it went to Iowa, despite me asking him to let me have 1st chance at it. I've confirmed with InstaVin that it's still in Iowa.  Has anyone seen it?

Welcome to the CRG.
beautiful car. Try the facebook group for 1st gen Camaros, as well as any Camaro clubs in Iowa. Post a picture on Iowa craigslist and say you are searching as well. I would think you would have a pretty good chance of locating the car if you have narrowed it down to Iowa.
Good luck and keep us posted.

That's a memorable car.  If anyone has seen it at a cruise in they will know it.  I ran this ad in the Auto RV local car flyer and it worked.  A guy called and said, "I know the first and second owners" and it went great from there.  Also now have met the third owner.

I found it! A member on Team Camaro got me on the right track after doing a little sleuthing. With that info I was able to track down and call the current owner. According to him, it was rusting away so he sent it to GA to have all new sheet metal done. It's back at his place, but mostly disassembled. It's sat that way for the last 6 years while life got in the way. The "even better" news? He would sell it to me!

X2 on the great news. Now start a build thread on team Camaro about the buy back and putting all the pcs back together. Would be both excellent story and build.

Are you planning to buy it back? Or is the owner holding it hostage?

I want to buy it back, but now he's re-thinking selling it.   :-\
