Title: 1969 Z/28 manual steering rag joint
Post by: sam on January 20, 2019, 06:16:52 PM
Do all the assembly line "manual" rag joints (#7806391) come with the ground strap? I have the original one on my 69 Z that needs to be replaced. I see some NOS ones with and some without the ground strap for sale. My Z/28 is an 11D of 68 car if that matters.

Thanks,  Sam

I'm in the process of replacing the rag joint/coupler on my 69 Z with power steering. The new joint is designed slightly differently, but there is a connection between the flange attaching to the steering column, and the coupler splines which engage the steering gear. I verified this with a VOM meter.

As an aside, I've attached a pic showing my original unit's worn down splines. If you still have the 50 year old joint on your Camaro, I'd be checking it. You could be close to a steering failure disaster.

I am Jim. That is why I want to buy the correct one. I found a couple NOS ones in the box but are slightly different. Just wanting to make sure I buy the correct "assembly line" version. Thanks for the response and the photo.
