Boys,
Over at the Boss 302 site there is a discussion about installing A/C. Since the Z/28 and Boss are T/A cars, would you install it on your DZ302? As for me, I would not….your opinions...
-
Nope.
-
Nope. Here in Tucson we learn to drive them after the sun goes down in the summer time. That way it's only 100 degrees :)

No Way, besides who want to work around all that when setting valves or tune ups. ! There ugly anyway !
-
A/C on a REAL Z/8... NO WAY!! Not on my cars if I live to 100... Danny
-
NOooooooooooooooooooooooooooo..... Not on a REAL Z28!
-
No. Not not on a real Z28 or a Boss 302 and, I'm not even a Mustang guy!
-
Actually inspected a genuine X33 car 20+ years ago with a dealer installed complete GM A/C system in place - car was for sale, NOM, but a documented vehicle. Ugly abomination - I would never consider that with any of my solid lifter cars. Fortunate to have a C60 Z11 vert, though.

x2 but just a few months ago. Had a camaro expert with me at the time. You probably know of him.. ;)

Personally wouldn't do it to mine, but I have a buddy who put Vintage Air in his Z so he can drive it year-round in comfort. Very discreet installation, uses the original firewall heater cutout and VA's air distribution box is the same size and appearance to the GM heater/blower casing, so there's nothing that can't be undone later on. Must say, it makes cruising possible in our daytime summer weather down here, rather than sticking to vinyl seats and dehydrating, so I totally get why he did it.
-
I can accept some applications and as always its up the owner but for me, Heck NO, not on an original GenI Z/28.
-
No!
-
we live in hot weather her in So Cal, and it gets hot in Indiana, where my there car is. I wouldn't do it. I guess I would just suggest a SS.
-
I have seen the VA on a 69 Z and did not like it. But if I had a really nice dealer type hang under the dash unit I might think about it. I did one on a SS years ago. Only a couple holes that could be filled later were required.

With AC, on a 302... I would suggest you not to rev it over 5000 rpm, or else you're likely to 'cook' the compressor/clutches...
... So with that, I'd have to wonder why you are driving a Z28 to begin with??
-
But could you rev it with the AC off?
Or maybe remove the extra belt if you are going to rev it up above 5k
-
We daily drive our Z/28 in Arizona. Adding AC never crossed my mind and in the summer it's well over 100 degrees. Actually it's my wife that drives it the most and she's fine with it. Real muscle cars don't have AC ;D

First and foremost ! If your a real gear head, the only air you want to feel is the wind blowing bye the open window. And for music I only want to hear the sound of lifters and loud exhaust . My car still has the AM radio in it and I don't think I have ever turned it on ............ Who needs AC/drugs or booze when you have 375 HP more like 425+ just sitting at your foot !

I 'locked up' the compressor clutch on my '69 Corvette L46 long ago revving to ~ 6000 rpm; I had to cut off the belt before I could proceed (and I've never repaired it). Given the choice with a high performance engine, I'd rather do without the AC... but I really like hearing a small block revving at high rpms! :)

+1. Couldn't have said it better!

I agree with you guys. I just can't fathom why anyone would want A/C in any muscle car, especially a first gen Z/28.
