Title: Drive on Track Day 2019
Post by: dannystarr on January 13, 2019, 07:43:25 AM
Today was the laps for charity at the local "Sonoma Raceway". As last year, I paid the $150 and got a few laps on the main track and a couple on the Nascar track. Had a little trouble keeping up {NOT kidding} with original brakes/shocks/and new bias ply tires. A little sideways in several places on the track and plenty of 4 wheel drift. They had me with a new corvette, Miata's and other modern sports cars. Got up to 90 MPH! At one point I was sideways at turn 2 and looked down and I was going 50MPH  :o  I asked to be last for a reason. A lot faster this year. Last year I was with the pack and backed off on purpose so I could jump on it at the stands. This year, not the case, no need to hang back. I couldn't keep up. Good Times  ;D   Danny

Very cool. So about $50 a lap. I used to drag race there back in the day.

Actually it's a better deal than that. 4 laps on the main track and two on the Nascar. So $25 a lap. Then when you get back, you keep your helmet on and get two hot laps with a professional driver in a newer Toyota. SUPER SCARY for me last year, so I have to say I passed on it this year. My heart rate was already up enough. Danny

Many years ago I did 3 laps in a Cup car at Chicago land speedway. Yikes! Not as easy at it looks!

Danny,  That might be the BEST way to make a charitable contribution I ever heard of!  :)

That's what I figured. If you are going to give money, what better way. Last year 2018 they distributed $486,000! That's a lot of scratch for the kids. So I am glad to do it. I wish I had access once a month  ;)  Danny

That is so neat to be 'on track'

Just got the still pictures emailed to me. TOOO COOOL !  8) Being behind left me clear of any other cars. Other pictures show some cars all jammed up.  Danny
