I have a friend who is flying out to Oklahoma next week to look at a car for sale. It is a '67 Camaro SS big block 4-speed convertible. It has a '69 396 in it, and he knows it is NOT numbers matching. His concern is... how does he tell if the car ORIGINALLY was a big block car to begin with from the factory? I am trying to get the VIN and maybe a pic of the cowl tag. But is there a list of things he can look at straight away to distinguish?... Danny

Danny, it's a 67 so the trim tag should give him info plus there are numerous threads concerning similar.
-
Yes get a cowl tag pic.
Only 1138 L78 Camaros in 67 and 4003 L35 Camaros in 67.

Here it is...Danny

Nothing definitive in that ad.
-
Nice car but without more detail it is a (plain) camaro for the price. As discussed before nice 1st gens with NOM,s ect. mid 30,s just my thoughts.
-
I would recommend you post the VIN and pictures of the trim tag BEFORE your friend spends the money to go out there.

That car seems familiar, and may have been discussed here or on the Team Camaro site this year.
-
Supposed to be getting a picture of the tag today. We will see... Danny
-
I have two 67 L35's.....one from LOS (04B, TH400) and one from NOR (05B, 4 speed) to use a reference.

Seems to have the correct big block fuel line. Which is a good sign.

Owner flaked and would not provide pictures and VIN. So my friend moved on to THIS one. He went down about 25 miles to look at it this morning. Cowl Tag and Window Sticker OK? Danny

The VIN pad looks like it was decked at some point, IMO.
The window sticker.....the characters look like they were made with an impact printer (vs. dot matrix). Maybe Paul from Winvoices can comment.

Is that window sticker real? because I thought you had to have a clock if the console was ordered?
-
124679N662722 has been in the database since 2013. The original engine is gone, it has a restamped engine pad and a reproduction window sticker.
Ed
-
THAT'S what I thought on the sticker. I forgot to mention that they DID say the engine was not original to this car. Big money for a non numbers matching car. But I guess I am not up to date on big block convertibles. NOW, is the CT original?... Danny
-
Yes, the trim tag is factory.
Ed
-
Thank you very much! Is that asking price anywhere near in line with this car? Is this the going rate for a NOM convertible? Should he offer 65K?.. Danny
-
It’s very tough to evaluate and price a car based on pics. Especially a car with that kind of price.
-
I get it, needs to be right in front of ya. Well I think he is for sure interested. Doesn't care about the motor numbers. The paint is really nice. They started it and hit the top up and down. Back window is NOT clear. But he mentioned the underside is SUPER clean, better than factory. I am going to drive down with him and see if I can get the trans VIN and Production #'s. If the trans VIN doesn't match the car, it's MORE negotiation ammo. Might also try to see the hidden VIN under cowl... Anything else I should be looking for? Danny
-
Looks good but with wrong motor I would be more excited if it was in the 40s.

I would agree with that statement. Mid 40's IMO.
Ed
-
WOW that is a real drop in price. I will see what happens with the trans VIN. Thanx for all your time on this. If it was a '68 Z/28 I could be a little more advanced on the info... Danny
-
It would be best if another person could go along to help evaluate the car, preferably a body man.
-
Window sticker is definitely a reproduction.
Paul
-
Ditto mid 40,s.
-
Car also has black gauges.
-
Thanx again to everyone... My friend owns a body shop. He has been doing it for almost 40 years. He is the one that told my buddy to contact me about the car. I just don't have the knowledge. So I will tell him to call the body guy and maybe all 3 of us will head down. It's only 25 minutes from home.. Danny
-
Trans looks OK.
-
Kurt,
There is no Trans stamp picture in the ad? You have one from a past ownership from the DB?
Looks like we are going down to look at it maybe Wed. Morning... Danny
-
I called and talked to the guy with he White BB convertible earlier this year,,the more I researched it the more I realized it was rubbish
I don't believe it was born a Big Block. I stayed away
