Title: 1967 L78 Fan/Clutch

I just want to share some information regarding two 7B 67 L78 Camaros. Conventional wisdom has it that L78's received only the schwitzer clutch and fan 3871276 with large diameter mount. My car came with the 912239 fan (note 5 rivet per blade) dated F7 (June 67) and Eaton clutch date E29 H (May 29th 1967). I know of another survivor built same week configured identical. If anyone else has any example please post and Kurt consider updating the cooling report.

When I bought my 68 Z/28 in 1976 it had the fan & clutch you describe. I still have the fan on my car today but the clutch is long gone. My car had 43k at that time...Joe

I just spoke to the original owner of the Butternut Yellow L78, built the same week 7B, and he confirmed that he has the 5 rivet fan and Eaton clutch like mine, and that's how it was delivered new. Due to the limited space he could not get date information of the components. My understanding is this may have only occurred very late June & July. two other unique features our cars also came with 323 blocks which use in 67 was unverified back in 1996 when I purchased, and 840 head with the temp sender boss not drilled & tapped.

323 block was definitely used by June 67. I have a 67 Chevelle L78 block that is a 323.

Bryon absolutely but 20 plus years ago there was skeptism. I remember in Colvin by the #'s book stated "possible some late 67 production cars could have received this block, but highly unlikely and unverified. The same could be said for the fan/clutch assembly that are in some late production L78's. The interesting thing is both L78's I reference have 456 gears!!! Yes 323 bocks were in production June of 67.... my block was cast F 18 7

i have compared the 3871276 fan to others and it appears to have more blade pitch than the others- thus requiring a 'heavy duty' fan clutch- thus the larger bolt mount pattern and larger center hole.
Hayden heavy duty fan clutches have the larger hole/bolt pattern; standard duty clutches have small hole/bolt pattern.

I will have to fire up my old computer and see if I can find a pic of my casting date.  Alan has updated his books over the years as new information comes up.

Let me look into the fan information. Then we can chat offline first. There are some things late in the 67 model year that are not “normative”.
