Good afternoon -
I am hoping to get some input on the engine and transmission stamps attached.
The L160XXX VIN number seems to align with the production date of 06B.
Are the engine assembly date of 0322 (Mar 22) and the tranny date of C28 (Mar 28) too early for a second week of June build?
The engine pad partial VIN number is upside down compared to the assembly date stamp - this seems wrong to me?
There is no partial VIN stamp on the tranny?
And BTW the rear axle is a QA - 12 bolt 4:10 posi.
Thank you!

Engine pad is a restamp to me. not sure about the others.

Engine pad needs to be clean (no paint) in order for it to be fully accessed.

That's a real Z and has been in the '67 Z Registry since the late '80s. It is #7 on the list. I saw that car in person before the engine compartment was restored or whatever you want to call it.

Agreed. Font and general stamping looks good to me, would be more certain if you could see the actual pad surface. I've seen the offset suffix before, suggests a separate stamping event during final assembly.
If Jon Mello knows it, I believe it.
Thanks,
Steve

How can the gang stamp be misaligned the if it's real?

We don’t discuss certain details as to why. It could potentially help the fakers.

It's pretty obvious the MP suffix was hand stamped after the assembly plant and date was gang stamped.
May have something to do with it being an early and special engine build, especially being a smog variant.
Just goes to show you can't really judge a stamp on it's own. You need to have a data base of known good stamps in the same time period.

Understood Byron - the seller is a bit eccentric & wasn’t about to let me strip the paint off the pad🙂
I just have never seen a partial VIN upside down & thought the tranny should have it?
BTW JM also knows the car but has not seen it for a long time - so who knows what’s been done to it - if anything.
Thanks to all for your comments - the car is a number 3 & the seller is asking better than number 1 pricing so a deal is not imminent👎

Understood. Some people will not remove the paint. It is just that for everything to be looked at closely, it is best to have the pad carefully cleaned before taking a pic.
The partial VIN for the transmission is probably up on top.
