The factory specified undercoating be applied as shown in the Assembly Instruction Manual.  UPC 11/13 Sheet B1 shows where it was applied inside the front fenders.  Basically only the inner rear part of the inner fender was coated at the factory.  If you have more than that on your inner front fenders, it was not factory applied.  Rear inner wheel wells were coated as well but it may have been part of Fisher Body plant procedures. You can compare front to back.

Advice:   you don't want to 'trap' any existing road salts underneath new undercoating!   Before you apply new undercoating, I would strongly suggest a thorough cleaning of the area to remove any road salts, then ensure it's thoroughly DRY (several days wait after drying), before applying new undercoating.

Most of us have no recourse but to use the available parts store spray cans for undercoating...

I have had success with 3M Body Schutz & the application Gun:
Material;
3M™ Body Schutz Rubberized Coating Black
Part Number 08864, 3M ID 60455047294, UPC 00051135088647
Tooling;
3M™ Body Schutz™ applicator gun, part number 08997 (sold separately)

In my opinion this set up produces a better replication of the factory texture vice the aerosol spray cans.

My Show car is driven in the PNW & gets caught in the rain about twice a year, no sign of deterioration, proper prep & following the mfr. instructions is a must for quality installation and application, It did take some time to practice on a large piece of cardboard to get the texture & application correct before commiting to spraying the car.
