Title: Hello and a quick question
Post by: Larryk49 on August 27, 2018, 01:36:52 AM
First time on the forum but probably won't be my last. Just recently bought back my son's 68 Camaro that he sold when he went into the Army in 88.  It has front end damage from a little too much girl watching but was still drivable. Just a standard small block coupe with auto trans and no real options to speak of. Interior is really nice except for a small crack in the dash. Car was Corvette bronze from the factory but was repainted red with white z stripes. Over the last thirty years the car was stored inside and not driven.... Did have the 327 rebuilt but other than that the guy did not touch it. Fair amount of surface rust but better than I expected when I got it. Car is numbers right so that should help it some. My plan is to give it a mild restoration and just drive it for a few years. I know that after market sheet metal is out there but I know a local guy that has a complete unbolted front clip off a first gen Camaro.... But it is a 67.  He has had this front end sitting in a shop for thirty years because he had it when my kid first wrecked his car. I have no idea what that front end is worth and so far I have not got a price from him. Keep in mind that we are not talking about a rs or ss or anything special but what do you think would be a fair price for this front end? And would you put a 67 front on a 68? Would also like to take a little survey here and find out from some other owners what would you do with the paint? Go back to original or paint it whatever color I want. Any thoughts are appreciated. Thank you all in advance.

I like the Corvette bronze. I've had mine since March 1976. I'd paint it back but that's just me.
Welcome aboard....Joe

Corvette Bronze without thinking about it.

Corvette bronze is one of the BEST colors (and '68 Camaros are the only year Camaro that offered it)..

Corvette Bronze is amazing on a first gen Camaro.  It is your car so your call, but I would repaint it that way without reservation.  Some folks here would do it for originality reasons but a good color is also a good color to choose.

FWIW - When I restored mine I went with a color I prefer, rather than the original color (that I did not like).

So the survey says............... Corvette Bronze! I'll give that some thought. But what about the front clip? Put a 67 on it and what is it worth?

I'd put a 68 front clip back on it. Buy used if you can find good originals. I hear the aftermarket stuff doesn't fit that well & the money you save on the purchase of aftermarket will be used to make it fit close...Joe

Put it back Corvette Bronze and put the 68 clip on it.

If you can get the 67 front clip at a good price pick it up. The only difference between the 2 years is the reflectors added to the fenders in 1968. You can always cut them out. That is what I would do.

Trying to determine a good price. 30 years ago it was 1500.

Back in April I was able to see Joe's 68 in CB.  I think it was the best if not one of the best colors ever.  I had a 68 in High School that was that color originally with a white vinyl top and that was a great combo too.  I wish I had painted it that color but it was the days where you changed colors to whatever was in.  BTW Joe, I found the pictures of my old car I was going to show you when I was there.  They were in an e-mail instead of in my pics.
