My original kick panels are a bit chalky and so I've been keeping my eye on used panels, in case they're not restorable.
Have noticed that some kick panels have 2 vent door levers per side, and others have only 1 per side.
My originals have 2 per side, was wondering if the 1-per-side are from a '67, since that year doesn't have Astro ventilation..... but the parts vendors list one type for both '67 and '68, and another for '69.
Soooo..... what are the one-lever kick panels from?

Oh, you opened the can of worms all right! So not really up on 67 and 68s, but I think they were both one lever for the kick vent. 69s are different. They came in three (maybe four) versions. First off there was a mid year change around Nov/Dec/Jan. The early 69s got the 'two piece" kick panels, which was basically a separate vent cover but located the door jamb screw lower down. The later 69s got the "one piece" which molded the vent cover in the kickpanel, and located the door jamb screw higher up. These are not interchangeable due to the one screw location. But if you fill and re-drill the hole, they will fit. These both came with two levers, one for the upper and one for the lower.
Now Air Conditioned cars came with a different kickpanel all together. The drivers side had no vent at all and the pass side, the lower vent hole was used for the "max-air" flapper. Both sides got separate screw on lever to control the upper dash vent. There may have even been a early/later version change on these too since the door jamb holes may have been different.
Easiest way to tell is look at orientation of levers, 67s and 68s are more of a slant and only one, 69s were horizontal and had two.
If you have a 69 without A/C, then you have two levers. If yours has a separate vent covers, then you need the early "two piece". If not, you need the "one piece".

The change to one-piece was end of Jan 69, beginning of Feb. I've seen one restored late Feb car with 2-pc - probably had them originally, but that's outside the norm.

Thanks, I had read up about the 2-piece versus 1-piece, but was curious about the number of levers.
At least I know now the single lever panels are definitely '67/68 parts, but am not clear on why '69 has the extra lever. Need to dig out and read the Owner's Manual!

Lower lever controlled the floor level vent (by your feet). The upper lever controlled the "astrovent" in the dash (in your face) :)

Maybe we need to persuade knowledgeable folk towards compiling a 'CRG 67-69 Kick Panel' Report......

Aha a '68 owner! So what I was hoping to learn is, what function does the single pull lever on each side of the car perform? Thanks in advance

Allows fresh air to come in from the cowl and tulip area into the floor board cabin area. Someone please correct me if I am wrong but the Astro Ventilation was the addition of the vents on the corners of the dash for 68 to allow warm or cool air to come straight to the driver/pass upper area throw use of the blower motor. 67 only had the floor air vent in the kick panel and the defrost and floor vents for the use of the blower motor. Vent windows were used as your upper body air source for 67. 67 a/c cars received the "astro vents" in the dash but that astro ventilation script wasnt added until 68. Hopefully that makes sense.

68 Astro Ventilation circuit is subject to the high pressure area of the exterior cowl source only.
Airflow is modulated by vehicle speed and flapper damper positioning.

Surely you aren't espousing that eliminating vent wings was a good thing are you? Having vent windows is the BEST thing about '67 models (over '68-9) IMO... I love them... :)

No I like ALL three years. I still have one open stall in the garage reserved for my Buddies Butter Nut 375 Car when he decides to sell,,,,then I will join the WING window Club.
The vent window removal was a "good thing" across ALL vehicle according to the OEM- mfrs, Reduced Manufacturing Cost, Reduced owner collision repair cost, reduced theft access opening, the astro vent and it's type provided better dash level ventilation than a leaky whistling wing window, but Hey it made a great cigarette ash vacuum or so I saw as a kid in my grandfathers 65 Chrysler Wagons at 75 mph down a rural route.
Styling is subjective
It would be interesting to see a photo shopped picture of a 69'er with a wing window to see?

:) I have fifties cars; they all have wing windows and I love opening them slightly (or more) to get the amount of air you want in your face or across your body. Whenever possible, even in AC cars, I prefer doing that to turning on the AC. The air just seems *more fresh* coming in the open window than coming thru that dusty old vent! :) Maybe the *worst* thing about '68's and 69's are the fact that they do not have the wing windows... :)

It is those pesky side marker lights that the Fed's mandated that mess up the lines on the 68/69 in my eye's.
