Title: Uniroyal Fastrack tire history and versions....
Post by: lemarin on August 07, 2018, 12:55:46 PM
Someone knows something about the history of the Uniroyal Fastrack tires ?

I wanted to have a real original setup for show purposes, so I bought a "survivor" spare tire, with XN coded rim (Rally). The tire on that spare is an Uniroyal Fastrack E78-14 white Line.

I bought another set of 4 Uniroyal Fastrack E78-14 white Line, coming from a 67 Mustang. The seller don't know when those tires we're originally installed on his car. I looked at the DOT, and it ends up by a 9, which means the built year is 69 or...maybe 79 ? On the sidewall, there a mention "belted", but there's no such mention on the spare survivor I bought. So they are different Fastrack version....any idea if the kit of 4 could been made in 1979 ? Was the Fastrack still available back in 79 in E78-14 size ? Or it's for sure a 1969 built date ?

Hope someone can help me to find out....

If it says DOT on the tire, it was made after 69......

Wow that must be a Canadian made tire.
Was E78 14 the standard tire size?

Yes the base tire was E78-14, unfortunately they don't make them in reproduction, in white line application that's why I bought a set of original tires. In fact, Coker make this one, but the line is way too wide.... https://www.cokertire.com/e78-14-coker-classic-2-3-8-whitewall-tire.html

I was wrong.
from JohnZ:
The DOT marking started with the 1968 model year, but the tire manufacturers were free to use their own proprietary codes until May, 1971, when the DOT standard 11-digit code format was mandated.
