The stamping looked OK to me, but the block deck has been cut (decked), has milling swirl marks rather than broach marks, and there's something (a hole? or ?) right in the middle of the app stamp date on the front of the block.   The VIN stamping looked OK (as far as was visible in the photo)...

It looks like blocks that I have seen bead blasted which cleans the block but ruins the broach marks!

Likely not glass beads, but shot blasted or shot peined. Glass or media is not aggressive enough to do that much damage.

I'd bet the hole in the deck was someone's attempt to make sure he got his block back from the machine shop. I used a couple of letter stamps in an inconspicuous place on my heads when rebuilding in the 70's, just to make sure I got back what I took in.
