Title: 1969 turn signal lamps
Post by: x66 714 on July 23, 2018, 01:37:18 PM
I looked at some turn signal lamps from a 1969 that were different from mine. These had a longer pigtail harness & no grommet where it would go to the fender wells. The valance these were attached to had a code of 42 & the fenders from the same car said 40. These parts have been in storage since 1970 or 1971. They're from a car that was made into a race car.
Did something get changed on real late 69s as far as t/s light go? Thank you, Joe

All front turn signals or parking lamps assemblies were the same through out the year. The only exception is the early lens with the trim ring and painted gray outside surface that goes around the lens.

A picture of what you are describing would be helpful.

Don't forget the Light monitor versions were part numbered differently, the housing and pigtail were different than ??% of the std assemblies.

Good point as I forgot about them.

One "OTHER" Idea could be (not likely) sometimes I hear that Olds 442 park lights are similar, Maybe I am out to lunch on this

I have park/turn light housings with vigilite, as far as I can tell from a direct comparison, the pigtails and grommet are the same as on the non-vigilite housing, the fibre-optic wiring was run separately straight into the back of the metal housing.

The Grommet is different for the vigilite version. It has a more cone shape and a molded slot for the fiber optic. See the attached photo.

Ok, didn't look that closely at the grommet itself Jim, good observation; but the main wiring is the same isn't it?

Re-reading this thread jogged a memory about another thread, which I found here from back in 2013:

Disregarding the grommet, is there a chance that the housings aren't actually originally Camaro parts, possibly thus explaining the different length of wiring?

the SET of Fiber optic version I restored for a friend had same wiring (colors and function), connector, pins, sleeve & socket. Just the Stamped steel housing and the grommet appeared to be different than the STD version.

Yes... 442 are the same EXACT HOUSING...

Just like the Pickup truck BED - lamp housing for 68-72 GM - C and K trucks is exactly the same as a 69 Camaro RALLYSPORT back up light housing and lens... EXACTLY.
