Have 69 DZ block with above stamps. Vin is hard to read, but think I got it. Can send a pic if wanted. Looking to connect owner of car only.
-
That’s possibly the VIN but as I stated over on Team Camaro, 19N621xxx would fit better with known data.
If you have cleaned it and used some chalk, go ahead and send me a pic.
-
Will do. Should be able to Saturday evening. GO BIG RED!
-
Updated subject line, after cleaning up the partial vin is 19N621880. The car is out there and last sold in St Louis, MO end of last year.
Casting 3959512
Stamp V03I9DZ or V0319DZ
Partial vin 19N621880
Hope owner can message me so we can reunite engine.

Also, had knowledgeable and trustworthy people review and confirm it is real.
-
Hopefully Dan the vin in the subject area can be edited to show the correct complete vin of 124379N621880 which I personally reviewed and is stamped "19N621880" with the DZ's block pad stamped with the assembly date of March 19, 1969. Now to find the car to rejoin where it belongs.

That 1 is clearly a 4, imo.
-
I have to say, it appears more like a '4' to me as well....
-
Take into account the 3/19 stamp, I believe the 621 makes more sense ( MAR 69 NOR #s: 607165-623587 ) but I guess 4 is possible. Have more photos from multiple angles and feel confident in 1. If we can just reach the guy w the 621880 car, that owner can decide what he wants to do. If he doesn’t, i’ve will rest easy that I tried and look for someone who needs it for a date correct application. I’m just trying to preserve an iconic piece of history in the right way. Got no other motives.

Having trouble getting photo compressed to post on this site. A zoom of 218 portion is clear it is a 1.
Can be seen on teamcamaro thread...

That 1 is clearly a 4, imo.
If you looked at it in person you would say "that 1 is clearly a 1, imo" as the stamping has somewhat of a double hit meaning the top of the one hit twice like it was looser in the stamp holder. The assembly date and vin match!
-
Yes, the 'casting indentations' can confuse reading the stampings as well; sure was one of Chevys less sensible decisions to stamp a cast surface! :) (There's no way a LEO would spend even a fraction of the time that we do in trying to ascertain the correct VIN!)
Note: 621880 was likely produced on Thursday (30 March) and 624880 produced on Tues or Wed (4 or 5 April), so only 4 or so production days between.. so an engine appropriate for one is as appropriate for the other...
-
This shows the "1" stamp much better but again, if you see it in person there is no question. A little chalk would assist. :)

If I had to vote based on that photo, I'd agree with you Chick! and Yes it's easier looking at the real thing (rather than an image), but still difficult on that cast surface!
