Title: brake booster
Post by: pjbizjak on June 02, 2018, 02:37:21 PM
What was the finish on the brake booster as it rolled off the line?

Gold iridite/dichromate, not painted. My originals have faded quite a bit, but the original finish remains visible after all these years. If you are refinishing a booster, there are several people that do a great job of restoration/rebuild, like Steve Gregori. Some reproductions I've seen over the years are too bright and/or too shiny. originals are more of a matte that I have seen (other opinions ?).

Regards,
Steve

Here's a 9204 that Steve Gregori did for me back in 2013 (ignore the incorrect check valve):

Pete, what might help is do some searches. There have been many topics on power boosters, who does the best work, etc. As Tim mentioned Greg is used by many including myself and his prices IMHO are reasonable. And a great guy to work with!

I'm arguing with my brother he says black, a few of his friends have 68's and says theirs are black. all the restos I've seen are gold.

LOL, just do a search and you will not find any survivors otherwise that are black.
