Title: 1969 Camaro with RS option! How do you adjust!
Post by: Solo Speed Shop on May 16, 2018, 01:00:41 AM
He guys!
Question how do the RS Headlights work? Are they only suppose to open when you turn on headlights? Mine open and close only if you rev motor! But when I'm driving car during the daytime DS opens and will only close if you rev motor and shut motor off! is it a adjustment? passenger side stays closed while driving with lights off! Tks Bill

Do you have a hose schematic for a 69 RS? If not acquire one before starting.
Vacuum leaks are crazy and seeing as you probably have original hoses, you probably some with splits and cracks, plus if you have not replaced the vacuum control valve you probably will need to find one... you can bend the tabs and put the new plastic valve on the old mounting plate so it doesn't look out of place on a survivor.

They are easiest to trouble shoot if you can create a vacuum source which does not require the engine to be running so you can hear leaks.

Here is the one I did replacing the valve on the original mounting plate.

The doors work with the headlamps. They can be over-ridden via the switch on the reserve tank to change the bulbs. In that position, they won't close.

I would start by replacing the valve on the reserve tank. There's a rubber piston in it that controls the vacuum. I cut one open and the piston was completely rotted, just black dust remaining.

Get the GM licensed repro. The unlicensed knock-off is junk.

The tank is mounted at the left front corner of the engine bay. Valve is mounted on top. We chased our tail for hours before replacing the valve. Fixed.

There are several sources for RS diagrams. Sounds like your system is basically sound; just has a leak. Don't get into analysis paralysis.

Same here chased it for ever prior to replacing the valve... same with the wiper door on my 69 Vette.
