Title: 69 Convertable inner front fenders
Post by: FreddieB on April 15, 2018, 11:23:09 PM
Does anyone know if the inner fenders for a hard top and soft top are the same . I'm putting a car together for a customer and the front shakers don't fit , I'm thinking they may be different . It is an rs also . Thanks

1969 Camaro front inner fenders are the same for coupe or convertible. RS uses the same inner fender except they have extra punched holes. Are you sure you have '69 Camaro front cocktail shakers?

I have a "69 convertible that I bought new, and it does not have front shakers. It does have rears.
Maybe it is because of the big block engine, whatever the reason it came from the factory that way.

All converts had the shakers. Yours are missing.

Sorry to disappoint you William, but I ordered this car new, and I have not removed the front shakers.
I have had this car since it came in to the dealer ( McQueen Chevrolet in Owensville, MO ) in summer of '69.
So please don't make statements you know nothing about!

Sorry I refuse to believe that car went through the manufacturing process and they were "overlooked".

The ones in the front are hidden a bit they may still be there just not easy to see.

William does know what he's talking about.  All convert's had 4 shakers (one in each corner) regardless of engine size.

Freddie exactly how are they not fitting ?  Are you positioning them correctly,  there should be no interference with the inner fender.  They are hidden in the front corners behind the headlights.

10 pages of shaker/dampener information for those with lots of time and interest. Pretty interesting though:

Randy,

In 49 yrs, has your car EVER been in a body shop for body repair or paint work?   Has it ever been 'restored'?  Or been in a shop for mechanical repair?   OR has the car never been out of your sight; ie you've never let anyone but yourself work on it?

Freddie, try swapping the front shakers around.  The lower leg needs to be pointing rearward :)

Mr. Shanks,
When you post on here 1896! times, and your experience / expertise garners you credits as a factual authority in many published books regarding 1st Gen. Camaros, and have authored research reports for this site... well, maybe, then, you could tell “William” that he knows nothing about this topic. Until then, please be cordial with fellow members. No need for rudeness.
Sorry Freddie, my Ky cousin, I have no personal experience with the shakers, but the AIM spells it out well. I have never seen a car that was supposed to have shakers, have anything but 4. In deference to the claim of a car built with less than 4, never say never, anything is possible.

Sorry guys I never got notified there were replies . Does anyone have a picture of an original front shaker . The owner of the car purchased a set and now I'm thinking they are from a different year or possibly a Firebird . The ones i'm trying to install didn't come with the car . It was a Pace Car also ....

69 Firebird and Camaro Front Shakers.  Firebird on the left, Camaro on the right, lower leg on the Camaro one is 3-1/8" long, firebird is shorter at 1 3/4" due to the difference in the front fender lower corner parting lines.  Firebird also has that extra upper bracket, which is the most obvious clue.

These are the shakers I was given , maybe a 67-68 ?

Yes, 67 or 68.  The easiest clue to tell is the ears for the rad support attachment.  67-68s like yours had the corners knocked off.  69 was just straight cut.  You can see that in the pictures
