Title: DF Wheel Decode
Post by: 169INDY on March 25, 2018, 07:25:17 PM
Can anyone comment on the codes for this item?

https://www.ebay.com/itm/Original-1968-Camaro-Z28-15-x-6-DF-Rally-Wheel/263566768762?hash=item3d5dcdba7a:g:5G8AAOSw8R9afiL~&vxp=mtr

As it relates to the Book (Jerry's) 67/68Z Book and the five (5) versions?

Thanks

Jim

It must have been a large batch as I've seen many of them over the years. What is puzzling is that large font DF wheels were still made after this batch. The inside hub are all dated 12 67 and then the 7 12 () 1 around the valve stem hole. Normally the K1 is stamped very light for some reason or not at all and if stamped it seems to be not lined up with the year code of 7. If you look close I believe the K1 is just above the 7 and could probably be noted easier without the paint build-up on the wheel advertised. I had an original wide tread tire & wheel off a Feb. built 68Z and the Large Font DF wheel had the changed stamping characteristics from KH and GM on inner center to K1 and GM. Never took the tire off he wheel to see the inner hub stamping but assume it was a Feb. dated wheel but the tire was dated Jan68. The Dec. 1 67 batch of wheels all have the KH stamping on the inner center area of wheel.
