Title: Steering Wheel Shroud
Post by: camaroman1969 on February 23, 2018, 04:13:23 AM
Does anyone know if the steering wheel shrouds on 69 Camaros, had the edge of the shroud "painted" or was it "vacuum plating"???  The part# was 3939760.
Some of the other dash cluster parts have this "chrome like" finish, on the outside edges of that part.  OK guys, give me a shout if you have any knowledge of someone who does this kind of restoration.   Thanks!!    Don

Definitely the vacuum or hot-stamp faux chrome. Most restorers refinish the trim with paint.

One of the photos in the link below clearly shows the faux chrome.

I had the inside plastic chrome windshield pillar covers restored by this person and am completely happy with the results. He uses the vacuum metalizing process.

Thank you very much Mike and Bill for the "vacuum chrome" info.  I'm going to contact them both.    Don
