Title: Starter Numbers

Well my starter is not oe-Delco replacement.
What are the correct numbers for my L30/M35 car ?
And are they dated?

Hi Frank -

   I don't know what the correct starter motor casting number is for your car. I would check with Ed. I bet he knows. I do know that the starter motors are date coded. The date code is stamped after the casting number and looks like this:

8 B 2 for February 2, 1968

Since you have a 11C car your date code should begin with a 7 and look something like this:

7 J 18 for October 18, 1967 (This is just an example. I'm not saying this should be your date.)

If you find out what the correct number is and the date code you want , let me know and I'll look for you next time I go to the salvage yards. Good luck.

Hi All -

   While we are on this subject, I have a question. The stamping on my starter looks like this:

1108367  8  B  2
DELCO-REMY  U.S.A.
    8

What does the red 8 stand for?  (Of course, it's not red on the starter.)   ;D  Thanks in advance.

Starters are kind of confusing. Here's what the Service manual has:

I can't verify these numbers, but they "should" be correct.

   Why do you think they don't post any information on the 302 cid starter motor on your chart?   ???

The 302 used the 1108367 starter, so maybe that "307" is a typo and should read "302"?

Not sure really. Just a guess...

   That's what I thought too at first, but then I saw it said "All Trans" which implies both manual and automatic transmissions.  Is that correct, or do you think they meant all manual transmissions?  The other columns are very specific in regards to manual or automatic.  I just thought two typos in one column?   ???  Thanks again.

I've seen a few GM documents with the 302 listed with "all transmissions"!! This is probably one instance where the right hand isn't paying attention to the left hand.

I think it's correct as written. The 302 doesn't always show up in docs.

Starter application listing are often in error. I'm working on getting a definitive listing via GM docs. I don't have it yet....

Did you ever find out what the (8) stamped on your starter stands for. I've seen them with (1,3) also. Just curious.

No definitively, Rick.  The majority think it might be an inspection stamp.

Does anyone know?  See reply number 2 above to see what we are referring to.

Correct for 307 as well. as 302.
